EOTC

Education outside the Classroom

As we are all aware, learning is more than just the acquisition of knowledge. It is important that every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development.  Authentic, hands-on, interactive learning experiences build on classroom learning. EOTC experiences can lead to a deeper understanding of the concepts that span across learning areas and which are frequently difficult to teach effectively using classroom methods alone. Learning outside the classroom  strengthens thinking and problem-solving skills, life skills such as co-operation and interpersonal communication.

A wide range of experiences outside of the classroom within a unique Aotearoa/New Zealand context are offered from the new entrant level. Elmwood teacher’s are always looking for opportunities to enrich  student learning and build connections with our local community in order for our children to have quality learning experiences in ‘real’ situations.

Permission for  your child/children to attend curriculum based EOTC activities is given by way of a parent signature in the enrolment form when your child commences school.  Full details of any EOTC activities will be provided by your child/children’s classroom teacher prior to any activity taking place.
