Out of School Activities & Sport

At Elmwood Normal School, we acknowledge that learning continues outside school hours and the value of community based learning opportunities, as you will see by the programmes outlined below.  Unfortunately programmes have to be limited according to the private tutor’s space available at that time.

In support of these learning opportunities, the school provides, where possible, a facility for individual tutors who may approach the school.  The school has no other responsibility for this extra-curricula activity.  Enrolment in any programme, along with any financial arrangement, is only between the parent/caregiver and the private tutor.

Extra-curricular Mandarin language program at Elmwood Normal School
The Mandarin language program at Elmwood Normal School has been delivered by Mandarin Stars www.mandarinstars.co.nz since 2013 and is focused on developing practical listening and speaking skills in Mandarin. The program is developed to enhance a love for learning Mandarin, an enthusiasm to learn languages, a sense of pride in learning a new language (and culture) and also a natural ear and pronunciation of Mandarin. In doing so, we believe that we lay the foundations for developing long term fluency in Mandarin and also a genuine passion and love for learning Mandarin Chinese for the future.

Marist Albion Netball Club

The Marist Albion Netball Club will once again be taking registrations from Elmwood school pupils to play in the 2019 Future Ferns Christchurch netball competition.  Yr 6 trials will be held from 1-2:30pm on Sunday 10th March in the Villa Maria College Gymnasium, 21 Peer St, Upper Riccarton (carparking is available on Brodie Street).  Please arrive 30min prior to the start of the trial to receive your trial number and to warm-up.  Yr 6 players will be able to register at the trial.

The Yr 3, 4, and 5 teams do not trial but are instead made up of players/friends who want to play together.  We are currently waiting for the online registration form to become available from the Christchurch Netball Centre.  Please check our website for updates (www.sporty.co.nz/maristnc).  When Yr 3, 4, and 5 players register they need to include their preferred playing day and location (Hagley Park – Thurs, Fri or Sat, or Wilding Park  – Fri).  Teams that play at Wilding Park are charged slightly higher fees to cover the cost of playing in an indoor venue.  Each team will also need to have a parent/s who are willing to coach the team and each player will need to indicate who this is on the registration form.  We look forward to welcoming you to the club for the 2019 season.

Do you are want to play club hockey on a Saturday morning?
